Step into the rubber rain boots of a lonely fisherwoman… Who may or may not really like mermaids. Sail the waters of the local lake on a mission to date them all! Catch fish to both improve your terrible gear and buy gifts for the lovely mermaids of the lake. Just be careful of the dangerous fish that lie below, and of your own wallet.
Plenty of Fish is a combination of a ‘fishing sim’ and a ‘dating sim’.
One could call it the ultimate simulation of life, and a ‘Rags to Riches’ story,
in more ways than one.
The game takes place on a very Earth-like planet,
except it has mermaids! And the habitats of the fish we know can be very wishy-washy
(By design! Think of how you can catch basically every fish in Animal Crossing from your backyard).
Begin the game as [Insert your name here], the (potentially) silent protagonist
who is sad, broke,
and single. However, she has had a dream for as long as she can remember:
to date a mermaid! Your Name gathers all the old fishing gear she can find
lying about and heads over to the local lake. Here, she plans to catch fish,
sell the fish at the local fish market, and eventually find a mermaid girlfriend!
There are only a handful of problems:
She doesn’t know how to fish!
Neither does she know how to court mermaids!
There are some dangerous fish under the surface of the water.
And on top of all that, the local lake has a boss, and she is very territorial.
To help her along with her mission of dating a mermaid, and getting rich if she can manage,
Your Name will have a fateful encounter with a magical talking fish.
This wise ‘fin-man’ will teach Your Name all she needs to know about the
intricacies of fishing and mermaid courtship.
Eventually, by the end of the game, Your Name will have upgraded her gear
to the point where she can take on the entirety of the lake, have gotten a mermaid girlfriend
(Spoiler alert, she’s the boss of the lake), and enough money to live off of…
Or continue her adventure into the wide open seas, although that is a story for another time.
